Of Little White Creatures

I am one year older then I was when I last posted. Seventeen!! Wooo-Hooo! You know what make being seventeen awesome? I'll tell you. I am finally the Dancing Queen!
"You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen.
   OOOOOOO-OOOOOO!!!"- ABBA

Yep, thats me!

I don't feel any older yet, a friend of mine said it takes at least a month for your new age to set in. Then another friend who is seventeen told me he still feels ten, so I am not sure what to expect.
I haven't posted in awhile but I have legitimate reasons so don't judge. I have been staring at a computer screen so much lately that my eyeballs feel like the are going to fall out of my skull and roll away. There is dog hair all over my floor so I would literally have hairy eyeballs. Writing college papers has mmade me a little loopy.
Anywhoooo, I wanted to share some wonderful gifts that my friends gave me :)

I got a graphic novel from my friend Micah:

The Arrival by Shaun Tan is based in fantastical land of strange creatures and wonderful cities. It tells the story of a man who leaves behind his wife and child and city infested by mysterious dragon like creatures to immigrate to a new bright city.

He can not speak the language but finds this city a safe haven away from all threatening things.
While he is there he meets other immigrants who tell him their stories. Finally he saves up enough to bring his wife and chid to the city; they meet in an epic reunion that makes me tear up. The different thing about this book is that it is told entirely without words; just pictures drawn by the amazing Mr. Tan.
Thanks Micah! I really love it!

A Love Note to December

I wrote this poem a few months ago when it was supper hot. This little verse still applies to today for it is still rather warm outside, but the weather is gradual here on the Gold Coast so we should all keep up hope for colder days in December. Here you go!

An Ode to December
by Tallis Raye

December won't you come?
I have been waiting
Many a summer night
For your cool breath on my skin,
for your frosty hands on my face,
Why don't you come?
Summer is tired now,
He longs to rest
To store up for the new year
When he will again write love
With sun on our pale skin.
December I want you.
Come and bring your chilly dreams
And your thoughts of home.
There are such delights hidden
In the folds of your white robes.
Lights and dreary days
Are turned to magic
At your touch.
There is nothing better
Than you.

Mail Day

Dear School System,
I am a teenaged girl applying for collage. I have some requests and concerns for you. As I am not feeling the long introductions right now I will hop right into it.

1. Please get a new word to define 'Deadline'. It has the word dead in it. If you want students to enjoy, or do, their homework, don't make it sound like they will be executed when they turn it in. It should be the Praise-line or the Success-line or the Super Happy Double Gold Star Yay line. Get the gist? Good.

2. Please figure out that half the children you have put on ADD meds are not actually ADD, they are simply board out of their skulls from sitting in chairs all day.

3. Please realize that tenuring teachers is a BAD IDEA! The teachers who are getting fired because of budget cuts are the new teachers with bright ideas about teaching. All the old crotchety tenured ones who droll on and on get to stay and inch by, barely teaching. Not all old teachers are windbags, I have plenty good old teachers, but none of them are tenured. Fire the bad teachers and keep the good ones.

4. Here is one for you college, why all the weird essay prompts? And why so many? Can't we just have one per college? There are so many to do with very little time. Please figure it out.

Well, thats all for now School System. I hope you have an enlightened rest of the year. You will be hearing from me soon.

All my sincere enthusiasm, The Bursty Blogger.

Crazy Wild Dancers

I wrote this poem around the beginning of summer. Enjoy!

Crazy Wild Dancers
by Tallis Raye

The flat of land is crazy.
Beads and powder,
Feathers or dirt,
And a dancer with wolves
Greets me
With appendages
And a kiss.
Crazy first kiss
With owl feathers and love.
We are wild dancers
and bad pictures
Because we move.
I love him
My grass dancer
And flower giver.
We won't ever stop
Moving to the rhythm.
Crazy wild Stampings.
Nothing is better then this
Grass and dust,
Fur and sweat,
Dancings on the wild land.
My wild dancer.

This is the World That We Live in.

There are days of perfection, like a few days ago when it rained, and there are days of stress, depression, and overwhelmed-ness(I made a word). I am currently living in the later type of days. All this week I have been subject to mellow feelings. Mellow can be good, I tend to like mellow, but not sad mellow feelings. Those are unhappy.
So, to try and redirect my despondency to happier tendencies I decided to think of art. I have been having fun in my sketch book lately but have no pictures of it to show you at the moment.
I love looking through sketch books to see the work method of other artists. Their ideas in raw form are more fascinating to me then the finished product. Sketches and rough drafts share about the person behind the art, and it is the people i love :)
Art is the direct translation of your thoughts onto paper. Pictures you draw or paint are windows into your mind and personality. Emotions have little other output as profound as art, in my opinion.
A sketch book is a world in which you can live forever. Things can be just as you want them to be, anything you want is yours, anyone you want to be you can be. You get the jist of what i am saying? Yes, of coarse you do.

I weep at my own deficiency, these hands are beautiful!

So CUTE!!

Love the colors!

This is beautiful. Castles are so beautiful.

 Elephant!

Love. LOVE love love love LOVE this

I love the creativity of the title of this one. The artist must be fun to talk to.

I love art.

Can I Hold Your Hand?

"To feel the love of people whom we love is a fire that feeds our life." Pablo N

Is that true? Is the disire to love and be loved what drives us to live? Surely, we all want that one true love that will cause our emotions to burn beautifully through blood and bones and brains. Is that state of being what we need to survive and thrive?
    I think it is.
Humans are capable of many types of love. I have no such perfect love that many imagine the instant they hear the word 'love' but I have others. I have a crazy mad love for my dearest and closets friends that won't fade away. I love my family greatly. Oh, and I deeply love my dog Scooby.
My greatest love is reserved for Jesus Christ. I love His completeness because he is in me, and therefore I am whole. But only with him. WHat human can complete me?
Those are my loves. I love all sorts of beautiful things as well, like sunsets and the sea. Soup on cold days, slippers and skiing.

I hope you all find things you love today, you'll find yourself bunches happier. Here is some love from me to you.

    You are beautiful.

Ferris, I will marry you.

You know what? Screw it! Teenager-ness sucks. It just does. Old people are always like, "Oh, do anything you can because it's the best time of your life." or, "Being young was so much fun. I miss those days of youth." Well, the whole do-what-everthing-you-can-while-your-still-young thing is so crap. The minuet you do something "Stupid" like sitting on the roof or running around in the street in front of you house at night the old one crack down and are all, "That was irresponsible!" It was a side street where you can see the cars coming two blocks away!!
And then there is the I-miss-being-young thing which is also a false statement. What they really mean is," I wish my joints still worked." They seem to delete the hormones and stupid relationship issues.
Who wants to be a Teenager?! I don't. I want to be comfortably settled in my mid-thirties, married to a Scottish guy, have three kids, and living in some other country where I teach art to underprivileged kids while illustrating books. That is what I want. Teen angst can go die!

I just realized the hypocrisy of that last sentance. I am full of teen angst right now and it is fun, in an angry sort of way. Listen to Broken Boy Soldier by The Raconteurs while looking at these pictures and you'll know how I feel.

Well, I feel refreshed I suppose. Now I am going to go mope in the kitchen and eat some food.
